Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day) Commemorates the reunification of Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, following the division of the city between 1948 and 1967.
28 Iyar 5769 - 22 May 2009 (Friday)
Shavu'ot (Weeks) also known as Yom HaBikkurim (Firstfruits) & Hag Matan Torateinu (Giving of the Torah) Culminates the seven weeks of the Counting of the Omer and celebrates the firstfruits of the wheat harvest and the giving of the Torah by Hashem to Moshe at Mount Sinai. The Megillah of Rut is traditionally read.

All UBMJC congregation's came
together in Leicester.
The day commenced with
a Torah service which was followed
by a very special Israeli buffet luncheon
and a unique afternoon of worship, dance,
reminiscence and teaching,
focusing on "G-D's PLAN FOR ISRAEL"
We concluded the day with Havdalah.

A great afternoon of celebration took place at the shul.
A short service pf praise, worship and dance
included the reading of the Megillah of Ester,
which was followed by afternooon tea.
Thanks to everyone who made cakes, hamentaschen
and other Purim treats and especially to those of you
who really entered into the 'Purim mood' and
dressed up - especially the adults!
Also a big thankyou to all those who prepared our
kehilah Shabbat dinner, which took place in the evening.

ADONAI said to Moshe, "The tenth day of this seventh month is Yom Kippur, you are to have a holy convocation, you are to deny yourselves, and you are to bring an offering made by fire to ADONAI. You are not to do any kind of work; it is a permanent regulation through all your generations, no matter where you live. It will be a Shabbat of complete rest, and you are to deny yourselves; you are to rest on your Shabbat from evening on the ninth day of the month until the following evening.

"'But on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered the produce of the land, you are to observe the festival of ADONAI seven days; the first day is to be a complete rest and the eighth day is to be a complete rest. On the first day you are to take choice fruit, palm fronds, thick branches and river willows, and celebrate in the presence of ADONAI your G-d for seven days.You are to observe it as a feast to ADONAI seven days in the year; it is a permanent regulation, generation after generation; keep it in the seventh month.

reading the Megillah of Rut.
This was followed by fellowship
over tea and cakes.

UBMJC Congregations
from as far apart as Scotland to Jersey,
came together in Leicester
to celebrate Shavu'ot.
The day commenced with a Torah Service.
There was an afternoon of worship
and teaching which focused on
'Personal & Congregational Renewal & Revival'
Lunch included some delicious cheesecakes
brought B'Nai Maccabim Synagogue, Borehamwood.
The day concluded with Havdalah.

A free public event in celebration
of 350 years of Jewish Life in Britain!
took place in the sunshine in Trafalgar Square, London.
There were stalls with Judaica, books, cd's etc, jewish food
and entertainment from cantors, choirs,
jazz and klezmer music and
various kinds of dance, etc.

This year was the 16th Annual International Conference
organised by Yeshua International,
under the direction of Rab i Dr. Ruth Fleischer.
It was week-end of great teaching,
worship and fellowship which included;
'Learning to read the Hebrew Bible'
with Dr. Duane Christensen
Dr Christensen holds a Ph.D from Harvard and is currently
Professor of Biblical Studies and near Eastern History
at William Carey International University.
Having taught on B'resheet (Genesis) chapters 1 & 2
at last year's conference, he returned this year
to continue his very popular course with chapters 3 & 4.

blessing conferences throughout the USA
blessed us all with her beautiful and unique style of worship.

In October we visited Auschwitz, Poland,
together with other UBMJC members.
We stayed in the Kazmierz District of Krakow,
once a thriving Jewish District in Upper Galicia.
