Tu B'shevat (15th of Shevat) The new year for the purpose of calculating the age of trees for tithing. It is a time when new trees are planted in the land of Isra'el.

Purim (Lots) Celebrates the defeat of the plot to destroy the Jews of Persia in the 6th Century BCE. The Megillah (scroll/book) of Ester is traditionally read.

Pesach (Passover) / Festival of Matzah The 'Festival of Freedom' celebrates the deliverance of our people from Egyptian bondage. The Seder on the first two evenings recount the story of the Exodus.

Yom HaAtzmaut (Israel Independence Day) Rememberance of the establishment of the State of Israel on the 14th May 1948.

05 Iyar 5769 - 29 April 2009 (Wednesday)

Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day) Commemorates the reunification of Jerusalem, the capital of Israel,  following the division of the city between 1948 and 1967.

28 Iyar 5769 - 22 May 2009 (Friday)

Shavu'ot (Weeks) also known as Yom HaBikkurim (Firstfruits) & Hag Matan Torateinu (Giving of the Torah) Culminates the seven weeks of the Counting of the Omer and celebrates the firstfruits of the wheat harvest and the giving of the Torah by Hashem to Moshe at Mount Sinai. The Megillah of Rut is traditionally read.

60TH BIRTHDAY!

Shabbat 10th May 2008/ 5 Iyar

All UBMJC congregation's came

together in Leicester.

The day commenced with

a Torah service which was followed

by a very special Israeli buffet luncheon

and a unique afternoon of worship, dance,

reminiscence and teaching,

focusing on "G-D's PLAN FOR ISRAEL"

We concluded the day with Havdalah.

March 2008:

Purim

21 Mar 08

A great afternoon of celebration took place at the shul.

A short service pf praise, worship and dance

included the reading of the Megillah of Ester,

which was followed by afternooon tea.

Thanks to everyone who made cakes, hamentaschen

and other Purim treats and especially to those of you

who really entered into the 'Purim mood' and

dressed up - especially the adults!

Also a big thankyou to all those who prepared our

kehilah Shabbat dinner, which took place in the evening.

ADONAI said to Moshe, "Tell the people of Isra'el, 'in the seventh month, the first of the month is to be for you a day of complete rest for remembering, a holy convocation announced with blasts on the shofar. Do not do any kind of ordinary work, and bring an offering made by fire to ADONAI.'"

Yom Kippur

It is to be a permanent regulation for you that on the tenth day of the seventh month you are to deny yourselves and not do any kind of work, both the citizen and the foreigner living with you. For on this day, atonement will be made for you to purify you; you will be clean before ADONAI from all your sins.

Vayikra (Leviticus) 16: 29 - 30

ADONAI said to Moshe, "The tenth day of this seventh month is Yom Kippur, you are to have a holy convocation, you are to deny yourselves, and you are to bring an offering made by fire to ADONAI. You are not to do any kind of work; it is a permanent regulation through all your generations, no matter where you live. It will be a Shabbat of complete rest, and you are to deny yourselves; you are to rest on your Shabbat from evening on the ninth day of the month until the following evening.

Our 10.30 am Torah Service was

followed by an afternoon of teaching

on the book of Yonah.

We concluded with our Neilah Service.

Then broke the fast together with a

kehilah meal.

Sukkot

ADONAI said to Moshe, "Tell the people of Isra'el, ' On the fifteenth day of this seventh month is the feast of Sukkot for seven days to ADONAI. On the first day is to be a holy convocation; do not do any kind of ordinary work. For seven days you are to bring an offering made by fire to ADONAI; on the eighth day you are to have a holy convocation and bring an offering made by fire to ADONAI; it is a day of public assembly; do not do any kind of ordinary work.

Vayikra (Leviticus) 23: 33 - 36

"'But on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered the produce of the land, you are to observe the festival of ADONAI seven days; the first day is to be a complete rest and the eighth day is to be a complete rest. On the first day you are to take choice fruit, palm fronds, thick branches and river willows, and celebrate in the presence of ADONAI your G-d for seven days.You are to observe it as a feast to ADONAI seven days in the year; it is a permanent regulation, generation after generation; keep it in the seventh month.

You are to live in sukkot for seven days; every citizen of Isra'el is to live in a sukkah, so that generation after generation of you will know that I made the people of Isra'el live in sukkot when I brought them out of the land of Egypt; I am ADONAI your G-d.'"

Our 7.30 pm service of was a time

of great celebration.

We were joined by members

of Petach Tikvah Messianic Congregation

from Worthing. Thanks to everyone who

brought along cakes, etc, which

were enjoyed afterwards!

Shabbat 06 Oct 07 - Worthing

We joined Petach Tikvah Messianic Congregation,

 in Worthing for their Torah service and celebrated with them

as they processed their new Torah Scroll.

9th June 07 - A great get-together at Woodcote Nursery, Wallington for a walk and tea /coffee.

 

MAY 2007:

Shavu'ot 22 May 07

Our Service at the Shul included

reading the Megillah of Rut.

This was followed by fellowship

over tea and cakes.

Thanks to everyone to brought cakes!

Shavu'ot 26 May

UBMJC Congregations

from as far apart as Scotland to Jersey,

came together in Leicester

to celebrate Shavu'ot.

The day commenced with a Torah Service.

There was an afternoon of worship

and teaching which focused on

'Personal & Congregational Renewal & Revival'

Lunch included some delicious cheesecakes

brought B'Nai Maccabim Synagogue, Borehamwood.

The day concluded with Havdalah.

Thankyou to everyone who helped

with the planning and preparation,

cooking, serving and clearing away afterwards.

Fourty-six people sat down to a lovely

A free public event in celebration

of 350 years of Jewish Life in Britain!

took place  in the sunshine in Trafalgar Square, London.

There were stalls with Judaica, books, cd's etc, jewish food

 and entertainment from cantors, choirs,

jazz and klezmer music and

various kinds of dance, etc.

26 - 28 August 2006 - Derby

This year was the 16th Annual International Conference

organised by Yeshua International,

under the direction of Rab i Dr. Ruth Fleischer.

It was week-end of great teaching,

worship and fellowship which included;

'Learning to read the Hebrew Bible' 

with Dr. Duane Christensen

Dr Christensen holds a Ph.D from Harvard and is currently

Professor of Biblical Studies and near Eastern History

at William Carey International University.

Having taught on B'resheet (Genesis) chapters 1 & 2

at last year's conference, he returned this year

to continue his very popular course with chapters 3 & 4.

An exciting new Messianic singer / songwriter who has been

blessing conferences throughout the USA

blessed us all with her beautiful and unique style of worship.

There were seminars with

Rabbi David and Rebbitzen Helene Rosenberg, USA,

who joined us for the first time this year.

Leaders of Or HaOlam Messianic Synagogue in Plymouth,

had a great programme for the younger children.

Following a successful Teen programme last year. This year included

Teen seminars with conference speakers,

praise & worship, etc.

as well as seminars led by our UBMJC Rabbis, and

We joined Petach Tikvah Congregation

in Worthing for their Torah Service.

This was followed

by a pic-nic and b-b-q together at Goring.

The sun shone and everyone had a great time.

During the afternoon the first

UBMJC Rabbinic Ordinations took place.

After a period of Messianic Internship

Leader of Norwich Synagogue - Andrew Sheldrake

was ordained as Rabbi

 and Leader of Leicester Synagogue - Dr. Julian Scott

was also ordained as Rabbi.

was unveiled at Bandon Hill Cemetary.

The ceremony was led by Rabbi Dr. Ruth Fleischer

and was attended by family and friends

UBMJC TOUR to AUSCHWITZ 2005

In October we visited Auschwitz, Poland,

together with other UBMJC members.

We stayed in the Kazmierz District of Krakow,

once a thriving Jewish District in Upper Galicia.
