B'NAI MACCABIM MESSIANIC SYNAGOGUE
B'Nai Maccabim History
B'nai Maccabim Messianic Synagogue, the oldest in the UK, was established as the vision of UK Jewish and non-Jewish believers in Messiah Yeshua.
Through contact with Messianic Jews from the United States, a group of UK Jewish believers attended a "Messiah Conference" (the annual conference of the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America). There they found believers who lived and worshipped as Jews within the context of faith in Yeshua, the Messiah promised by Jewish prophets. Encouraged by this, on their return to London, they began the London Messianic Fellowship.
From Fellowship to Congregation
After several years, they recognised their need for an experienced and qualified leader to guide them into congregational status. They called their first rabbi in 1988 and established the London Messianic Congregation. After nearly four years in leadership, he was suceeded by the present rabbi, Dr Ruth Fleischer, who had worked with him during those early years.
From strength to strength
By 2003, we felt that the name "London Messianic Congregation" was no longer indicative of a Messianic synagogue which desires to see revival and restoration among our Jewish people. Our ministry had expanded, and we were no longer based in London but in Borehamwood as we felt called to the greater London area and beyond.
We began to consider a new name, a name which would reflect our calling and our commitment ... and so B'Nai Maccabim Messianic Synagogue was born.
Why B'nai Maccabim?
B'nai Maccabim, literally "Children of the Maccabees", identifies us as people who choose to stand for the L-rd in the face of anti-biblical religion and the return of paganism. The Maccabees declared: "Who is for the L-rd - stand with us!" We issue the same challenge. B'nai Maccabim Messianic Synagogue desires to stand for biblical truth and lifestyle, the commandments and standards of G-d and the teachings and sacrifical atonement of Messiah Yeshua, as we near the end of the age.
