So what does Teshuvah mean anyway?

'Teshuvah' is a Hebrew word that is understood to mean 'repentance'. It literally means to turn back to G-d, and so the purpose of Teshuvah Messianic Synagogue is encapsulated in a single word. Teshuvah Messianic Synagogue exists primarily to call G-d's people, am Yisrael, to turn back to Him in repentance - through the atoning work of Yeshua the Messiah.

As Hashem declared through the prophet Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah 4:1-2):

"'Israel, if you will return,' says Adonai, 'yes, return to me; and if you will banish your abominations from my presence without wandering astray again; and if you will swear, 'As Adonai lives,' in truth, justice and righteousness; then the nations will bless themselves by him, and in him will they glory.'"

As this Scripture indicates, the call to worship G-d is not only for those of Jewish descent. Those from the nations are also to "bless themselves by him and in him will they glory". Teshuvah Messianic Synagogue therefore welcomes those who were not born Jewish. The UBMJC's 'Gateway Course' is taught at Teshuvah Synagogue for the purpose of bringing into membership both those born Jewish and those who were not. It is a programme of study spread over the course of at least a year which examines key aspects of Jewish theology, history, identity, life cycle, lifestyle and much more. For those not born Jewish this programme of study forms an essential part of the process of conversion to Judaism which includes b'rit milah for men, t'vilah for both men and women, and examination by the UBMJC Beit Din.

The call to do teshuvah is for everyone, young and old, male and female, Jews by birth and Jews by choice. The call is no less for those that have already been brought into relationship with G-d through Messiah Yeshua. Hashem calls all those who have a relationship with Him to live a life based on teshuvah.
